list of PSEP / SLA websites

Tue, 2015-07-28 08:49
Hello folks,

I know there used to be a site to go to where all the states' PSEP (and maybe SLA) websites were listed. I know that site is no longer available. Is there another one out there anywhere? The other day I was canvassing state PSEPs websites, but basically did a google search for each state. If there's not a list out there, I'd be willing to put one together, but don't want to reinvent the wheel if it's already been done. [...]

NPDES. Check your DEQ to see how they set rules for homeowners to comply. Many states have NPDES exemptions.

Also, some states only require permits for RUP's.

question of the day

Mon, 2015-07-27 16:29
AAPSE members:

I had a question today that I don't know the answer to and am hoping that someone can help. Does anyone know of any regulations that address pesticide spraying near water for homeowner products. You see we have cabins that are located next to a city lake that is there water source and they are worried about homeowners spraying weed killers, fertilizers and other insecticides for ants etc close to the water. I said that the label typically addresses any specific environment concerns so if would be important to read the label for all products. They also wanted [...]

Wood Destroying powerpoints etc

Fri, 2015-07-24 15:38
I am once again working on training. Does anyone have any powerpoints or presentations covering wood destroying pests that might be good to present at training. Also does anyone have any information on mold in structures. I know that Dean has a manual on this, but I was not sure if anyone has ever done a presentation. [...]

Friday Funny--Pesticide Commercial on Yard Master from the 1960's

Fri, 2015-07-24 10:45
Okay, I know, I have a day job and I am working on a presentation, but I came across this television commercial and it is too good not to share.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FjiqIuaNPA

Perhaps I have a strange since of humor, but working in the pesticide world will do that to you. Have a look and especially listen carefully to the announcer's comments paired with the home owner's. [...]

Colleagues:

These are wonderful opportunities for us to make a difference.

Many of you are familiar with these resources as you travel internationally routinely. In considering an international opportunity such as Nigeria, I urge that you make an informed choice:

Re: Drone Pesticide Application

Thank you Richard for that response. Many are not aware of the safety
concerns that those flying the drones present....especially to the aerial
application industry. Also, just last week, drones were credited with
preventing the timely flying of fire fighting aircraft over the I-15 brush
fire in CA...a national news story.

I would suggest those interested in monitoring the legality of drone flying
should monitor the NAAA website as well. [...]

UC Davis has been doing work related to pesticide application with drones.
http://news.ucdavis.edu/search/news_detail.lasso?id=10623

July 2015 edition of the Good Fruit Grower has an article “Drone Ready for Work in Fruit” - “FAA approved Yamaha’s remote-controlled copter for agriculture use.” The article talks about the Yamaha Corp. of America RMAX unmanned helicopter -a drone which has been at work in Japan since 1997. Article says FAA set some specific limits on how the RMAX can be used. [...]

This is provided fyi only.

Consumer vs. Commercial Drones, According to the FAA

The FAA currently does not allow commercial use of drones except under special circumstances. Consumer drone use is completely legal if used according to FAA guidelines.

Commercial Drone Use

The FAA has some specific (and some not so specific) guidelines concerning the use of sUAS. Here are some things you definitely can’t do according to current policy: [...]

Drone Pesticide Application

Thu, 2015-07-23 08:14
What are the requirements for application of pesticides via remotely
controlled drones? I assume aerial pesticide control licenses....any other
license required?

Anyone have any documentation on this subject? I have a client looking to
get into this business and they keep getting "stone-walled" by state
agencies...

Any pertinent information would be appreciated.....

our good friend and colleague, Elmo Collum. I wanted to followup on this

FW: Announcing Phase 2 of the SmartLabel Pilot Program--Significance for Pesticide Users

Wed, 2015-07-22 10:19
I would have a look at this announcement in preparation for the 2016 training season. For the past 3-4 years EPA has been working on improving label clarity generally, and the SmartLabel effort is one element of this. Of significant importance is a labeling template that will allow for consistency in label look as well as the ability to do keyword searches across multiple labels. [...]

Kim,

Sorry to hear this news. Elmo was a great man to work with. Thanks for

Passing of Elmo Collum, Mississippi State University retired PSEP

Mon, 2015-07-20 14:31
Good Afternoon All,

I just wanted to let the association know that Elmo Collum, long-time PSEP for Mississippi State University passed away yesterday July 19th. Elmo had retired from Mississippi State University on June 30, 2015. Elmo will be missed greatly. He was very passionate about pesticide safety education and Mississippi agriculture. I learned so much from Elmo through the 5 years I knew him. He was a great individual. [...]

Mon, 2015-07-20 11:41
Greeting AAPSE members,

Two years ago, the AAPSE Board of Directors (BOD) began formal discussions about opening the requirements for "Full Members". (Currently, "Full Membership", the ability to vote and serve as officers and directors, is reserved for dues paying members from state/tribe/territorial regulatory agencies, university extension programs, and EPA.)

You can read a brief summary on the history of these discussions in the attached document (see AAPSE Actions on Changing the Membership Structure Since 2011.pdf). [...]

Carol Black looking for water quality presentation

Tue, 2015-07-14 13:52
AAPSE Colleagues

I am looking for a Water quality presentation that specifically addresses labeling language for protecting water — label examples of simple and complex no-spray buffer language.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

The label examples are more important than the Powerpoint Slides.

Thank you in advance.
